Kitchen cupboards can easily become chaotic and before you know it, there’s no space and you’ve 20 odd packets of rice, 15 different types of pasta, 5 jars of paprika and jars 10 years out of date. An easy way to keep on top of the chaos is by identifying the products you use most frequently and decanting these items in to labelled jars. You’ll easily be able to see when they’re getting low and only then go and buy more to top up your jars. Any leftovers can be neatly stored in a basket ready to top up again.

If you’ve limited cupboard space and like your spices, you can buy spice racks for the inside of your cupboard doors. Some, like the ones I’ve used here, just stick on so they’re great even for the most inept DIYers among us (me included!)

Top tip… if you’re decanting spices, shake the bottle first to disperse any clumps, do it in the sink to easily rinse away any spills, and be prepared for a cloud of cinnamon in your face! ⁣

Most of us have a ‘Monica Cupboard’ somewhere in our houses. That cupboard where things that don’t have a home just accumulate until you struggle to shut the door. You’ve no idea what’s in it but it’s a constant source of stress and angst!

In this cupboard I found bed linen, towels, gifts, wrapping paper, sewing machines, suitcases, photo albums, souvenirs, fabric, clothes, hangers, cameras, toilet rolls.. the list goes on.

I suggested to my client that we use the cupboard for its intended purpose- linens; and that everything else needed to find a proper home elsewhere in the house. Given limited space elsewhere in the house, we also decided to keep photo albums in there as it’s a nice dry place and has enough shelving to house them for the time being.

The end result is a nice tidy cupboard where everything is easy to see and access! No more stress finding bed sheets and if my clients fancy a trip down memory lane they can now easily get their albums out 😊 ⁣

My son bought a couple of new T-shirts a few months ago. I noticed today that he hasn’t worn them yet and they’re still in his drawers with the tags on. When I asked why he said he was ‘saving them for a special occasion’. I reminded him that soon he’ll grow out of them so best start wearing them! But it got me thinking… how many of us save things for ‘best’ or an elusive special occasion?

Life is too short to save things for best. Wear your favourite outfit, drink from the fancy crystal, use the expensive bath bombs. Life is the special occasion. We aren’t here long so use the special things that make you smile instead of keeping them hidden away for another day.

We’ve all eaten and drunk far too much, the house is a total mess, the dog has trashed its new squeaky toy and left pieces of chewed up plastic all over the house, the wrapping paper hasn’t quite made it to the bin, the dishes from the Christmas dinner are all queuing for the overworked dishwasher as nobody can be bothered to wash up but what a lovely day we’ve all had and a big Merry Christmas to you all!

I’ve been so busy the last few weeks squeezing in as much organising and cleaning for you all as humanly possible but now for a few days off to think about all the exciting things planned for 2025, and all the people I’ll be helping get organised and sorted next year. Maybe I’ll even tidy my own house up tomorrow! ⁣

This is so true- organising your possessions and making sure that everything has a home is the best way to avoid those frustrating mornings where you can’t find your keys or your phone or a charging cable etc etc. We’ve all been there and it always seems to be when you’re short on time! Many of us are limited with time and tackling a disorganised, messy and untidy house can seem like an impossible task. Try focusing on one room at a time, or even one small area of a room to break the task down in to more manageable chunks. A great place to start is your fridge. Try setting aside an hour or two to take everything out, deep clean and get rid of any old food or forgotten jars before putting what’s left back in a way that works for your family. I’m giving my own a bit of an overhaul and I’ll post some snaps later to give you some ideas!

A quick 15 minute sort out on one of my housekeeping jobs yesterday will hopefully make a huge difference to this client. Here I’ve organised all clothes in to practical sections- vests, tees, uniform, dresses, trousers and jackets. Bulky jumpers have been folded and popped underneath to save rail space. Colour coordinating looks awesome but for kids this is practical and will hopefully mean those exasperating ‘Mummmmmm wheres my’ conversations can be avoided!
